The Reef Comes Alive
The Fish Identification Specialty course provides you with the skills to identify the fish you see underwater. It’s a rewarding experience to be able to name the creatures you encounter and understand their role in the reef ecosystem.
At H2O Dive Center, we’ll teach you how to categorize fish into families based on their physical characteristics. Whether you’re a nature lover or an underwater photographer, knowing your fish makes every dive more meaningful.

Knowledge Development
Learn about the common fish families in the Caribbean and Florida, their body shapes, and how to use identification slates underwater.

Ocean Observation
Complete two ocean dives where you’ll practice fish surveying. You will record sightings and identify various species in their natural environment.

Advanced Navigation & Entry
Practice using reels and lines for limited penetration (where safe) and master the art of perfect buoyancy near metal structures.
